A spoonful of honey could save your relationship and your ‘sanity’

Apparently, my snoring is so loud that I scare everyone in the car Im driving&

Honey is good for many things: mixing with feta, Yemeni-style; boosting your digestive health; and giving you an all-important energy boost before a workout. Well, make way for yet another, because it could also stop you snoring like a foghorn, according to sleep experts at CBD.co. Which, in turn, could help save your relationship

We all know what its like to try to sleep in a room with a loud snorer

One of the challenges snoring presents is that we dont know were doing it. Some snorers dont know they snore, and most of us think theres little we can do to help our bedfellows get a restful night.

If you or your partner snore, you know all too well how it can impact your quality of sleep, say the sleep experts at CBD. Not to mention the sanity of everyone within earshot, they add.

Ive been there. You probably have, too.

But now we have a way of saving ourselves from the maddening sound of a thunderous snorer, and we dont have to go any further than the kitchen cupboard to find it. Or, you know, the store, if you havent got any in.

How a spoonful of honey could save your relationship

If you or your partner is a particularly loud snorer, it has likely affected the amount of sleep you can guarantee getting together. Losing sleep over something that should be trivial can be frustrating. It also impairs your ability to think clearly and rationally.

Fortunately, honey.

Honey boasts impressive anti-inflammatory properties, which can work wonders for reducing snoring, claim the folk over at CBD.

By coating the throat, honey helps soothe and reduce the vibrations that cause those disruptive sounds. When your throat is less irritated and inflamed, your airways are more open, making it less likely youll snore.

Try mixing it in with your evening brew. Chamomile or ginger teas are a great addition to a relaxing evening-time routine anyway. Adding a teaspoon of honey may help elevate that routine to the next level.

The Better Sleep Council concurs. Honey, it says, has anti-inflammatory properties and coats the throat, which helps to reduce the loud vibrations caused by snoring.

If honey doesnt cut the mustard

You may have tried using honey as a natural remedy for your snoring  or your partners.

If it didnt work, or if you try it after reading this article and that doesnt work, the Sleep Foundation (SF) has a few other recommendations you could try:

  • Sleep on your side.
  • Wear a nasal strip or dilator.
  • Use an anti-snoring mouthpiece.
  • Lose some body weight.
  • Try mouth exercises.
  • If you smoke, quit  here are a few pointers to help you quit smoking.
  • Dont drink alcohol before bed.

There are some more invasive remedies, too, including surgery. Laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty involves using a laser to remove tissue from the uvula in the throat and the soft palate. People have been performing this type of surgery for 30 years, although it has become controversial in recent years, per SF.

Another option is getting palatal implants. This involves a relatively non-invasive surgical procedure that stiffens the soft palate.

If you suspect an underlying medical issue is to blame for your snoring, its worth seeing a doctor before jumping to any conclusions.
