7 steps to ‘Sunday Reset’ your bedroom and prepare for the week ahead

The ‘Sunday Reset’ has become a key part of life for many as they tidy, clean and declutter their bedroom in preparation for the week ahead. It involves setting time aside on a Sunday to do a list of jobs, like changing your bedsheets and vacuuming.

The trend has taken over TikTok, where people are filming themselves doing their weekly reset, and it’s a brilliant way to clear your mind, recharge and get rid of those pesky Sunday blues. If you want to give it a try, here are some simple steps to follow.

1. Do your washing earlier in the week

Lots of people use their Sunday reset to do loads of washing. However, Martin Seeley, sleep expert and CEO of MattressNextDay, says you should actually wash the majority of your clothes on Mondays and Wednesdays to “avoid the Sunday chore rush” and only clean your bedding on a Sunday.

2. Skip making the bed on Sunday morning

Remove your sheets on a Sunday morning but don’t put the new bedding on straight away. You must leave your mattress to air before changing the sheets as sweat and moisture get trapped while you sleep, allowing bacteria to build up. Letting your bed breathe allows this moisture to dry.

3. Dust before you vaccum

Once the bedding is in the washing machine and the mattress is airing out, it’s time to move on to cleaning your bedroom – but make sure you dust before you vacuum to prevent dust particles from landing on your recently vacuumed furniture. Vacuum your mattress too!

4. Don’t forget these places

While cleaning, it’s easy to forget some of the dirtiest places. For example, light switches and headboards can harbour the most germs and bacteria. You need to get right under the bed too to prevent the accumulation of bacteria, dust mites, and various harmful pathogens.

5. Clean your bedroom carpets

Carpets and rugs in the bedroom can become clogged with dust and dirt, especially if you walk over them with your shoes. This can make the room smelly and impact the airflow in your room, so it’s really important to vacuum your carpet every week and give it a deep clean every once in a while.

6. Make your pillows fluffy again

Everyone wants that hotel bed feeling every night, and this Sunday Reset trick will put a spring in your step on Monday morning after getting a great night’s sleep. Fluff your pillows up by placing them in the dryer with tennis balls inside a clean sock on the lowest setting for 30 minutes to restore fluffiness.

7. Put on the fresh bed sheets

Once you’ve finished all of that, it’s time to put on the fresh bed sheets in the afternoon once they are dry. Seeley recommends using breathable materials for your bedding, such as cotton, that help regulate your body temperature and stop you from overheating.

That’s your Sunday Reset done, and you can spend the rest of the day taking time for yourself and resting in preparation for the week ahead.
