61-year-old strikes a chord with biggest tragedy of life that holds you back from opening up

A 61-year-old’s advice hit a nerve as he spoke to letting your insecurities get in the way of long-lasting connections.

Advice is not always well-received or even wanted, and yet, hearing some carefully chosen words can be the difference between stability and emotional collapse. Old people in particular love to give advice, and while not all of it is completely relevant, there are some truly juicy tidbits like a man’s biggest regret after 77 years.

You’re standing in your own way

Martino (@martinoadvice) is a TikTok creator who usually posts content around advice. His subjects range from judging others to the advice he would give his teenage self.

“One of the tragedies of life is that largely due to all our insecurities, we don’t realize that we are liked and loved more than we know,” he said. “The reality is that someone at your class or work really enjoys it when you show up, even if you’ve never or hardly ever spoken to them.”

“That childhood friend who you lost touch with probably thinks of you fondly from time to time, just as you think of them,” he added.

Just because you’re not aware of it, doesn’t mean that someone isn’t “thinking of you” or even “missing you” in their day.

Martino continued: “Don’t spend your time trying to portray a different image of who you are, or building an ego, because remember an ego is not the same as self-confidence. Love who you are because your true nature is simply being, you know happiness is already within you. It’s always been there. You are enough. Carpe diem.”

His comments struck a chord online

Like myself, many TikTok users found themselves taken aback by Martino’s kind words about something we often overlook. Just because you aren’t aware of the affection people have for you doesn’t mean it’s not there.

“I wanna stay on this side of tiktok, I’ve been struggling with a lot of problems lately, this motivational stuff sure gives me strength to keep going, thank you, kind sir,” one person wrote.

“Ive been feeling so unimportant, judged, and dismissed recently so thank you I needed to hear this,” another said, while a third added, “Just put the heart-aching wisdom in my frontal lobe, big bro.”

Someone else said: “I personally feel that we dont show people enough that we appreciate them, not just words or actions, their presence as well.”
