5 tips to prepare your car for winter, from tire checks to life-saving measure
A man has shared helpful dad advice on the checks and changes you should be making to your vehicle as we barrel toward the bitter winter months.
As the thermometer starts to sink you are probably already stressing on how to correctly de-ice your car. But removing the ice from your windshield is but one of the many winter woes, which also includes getting your car out of the snow in the first place.

You need to check your wiper fluid, Dad said
Bo (@dadadvicefrombo) is a father and content creator with over 3.7 million followers on TikTok where he usually posts advice you should have received from your own parents during childhood. Previous topics have included mowing the grass, changing a tire, and building storage.
On Sunday, the dashing dad took to the social media platform once again with helpful advice and checks you should be performing as we approach winter.
Bo’s first point was to ensure your wiper fluid is full, which keeps your vision clear and safe when navigating potentially dangerous roads. You also get more points for using a fluid that specifically works in cold conditions.
Moving on to your tires, the dad revealed that you can check the tread of your tires by using a coin. Simply slot it into the grooves of the tire to ensure your vehicle will have proper control and therefore safety during turbulent conditions.
Not only does correct tire pressure keep you safe, but it also means you’ll be burning through less fuel and money.
It might be time to swap out your windscreen wipers
If you’ve been noticing your windscreen wipers leaving streaks on your window, then it might be time to swap them out in time for winter, Bo added.
This next point might require some research because every car is different when it comes to anti-freeze. A quick trip to your local garage or auto part retailer should be all it takes to keep your engine running at maximum efficiency.
“Make sure you carry some kind of emergency kit,” Bo concluded. “Think about being stuck in a snowstorm without any service, what would you need? A blanket, a flashlight, something to eat, something to drink.”
The dad’s last pointer was particularly prudent given the continued devastation of hurricanes in the US.
The dad’s advice went down well with fans, with one penning: “I can hear my own Dad’s voice telling me this from heaven. Thanks, Dad.”
“Love that I found you – some of us need advice our Dads knew,” someone else said, while a third added, “Thank you for reminding me to ask my dad to check.”
