5 new features you ‘need to try’ when you upgrade to iOS 18
Apple’s latest operating system iOS 18 will be available to download from 16 September and it’s packed with new features.
From more customization options to an updated flashlight, here are some of the additions you need to check out when you upgrade your device.

5 features you ‘need to try’ when you upgrade to iOS 18
Speaking on TikTok, technology whiz Ramal Media says these are five of the best features that are arriving with iOS 18.
1. New flashlight
Apple’s new operating system is bringing a huge makeover to the flashlight, making it more advanced than ever before.
A real flashlight icon appears on the screen and you can use your finger to change the brightness by swiping up and down on the light beam.
Plus, you are able to change the angle of the light by swiping left or right, directing the beam exactly where you want it.
2. Customize your quick settings
You see the flashlight and camera icons at the bottom of your iPhone lock screen? You’ll be able to customize them with iOS 18.
You’re no longer forced to have those two quick settings, you can change them to anything you want by holding down on the icons.
The options are endless from Calculator to Timer or Wallet, just choose the ones you use most and need to navigate to quickly.
3. Move your app icons
iOS 18 is bringing even more customizability to the Home Screen, allowing you to move your app icons wherever you want.
They no longer have to be in lines directly next to each other, you can move apps anywhere on the screen with space in between.
For the first time ever, there can be blocks of empty space on the Home Screen to separate and organize apps into sections.
4. Customize app icons
Keeping with the same theme, you can also customize the way your app icons look on the Home Screen for the first time ever.
This includes choosing Light Mode, Dark Mode or Automatic and even tinting the apps to a custom color like pink or blue.
You can choose different color icons for various wallpaper setups too. For example, a different one for Do Not Disturb and Fitness Focus.
5. Change the Control Center
The Control Center, which is the menu that appears when you swipe down from the top of the screen, is also customizable with iOS 18.
You can choose exactly which shortcuts you want to appear there, whilst also changing the icon colors and sizes.
So, the Control Center will actually contain the things you use everyday, making them quicker to open than ever before.
The calculator has had a big update with iOS 18 too, and it’s easier than ever to share WiFi passwords with friends.
iOS 18 is compatible with every device from the iPhone SE (2nd generation or later). Download it on September 16 by going to Settings > Software Update.
