How to spot a sociopath
People with antisocial personality disorder are not too common, but educating yourself about their tactics and the complexity of the overall condition comes a long way in navigating tricky situations with sociopaths.
Dead eyes
One of the biggest signs you’re dealing with a sociopath is them looking at you with dead eyes. Antisocial personality is associated with a lack of emotions, so sociopaths don’t feel anything to reflect in their eyes.
Kanika says she would remind herself to blink more frequently so her dead stare wouldn’t freak people out.
They mirror you
Mirroring is a manipulation technique used by sociopaths, narcissists, and people with similar mental conditions. They do this to induce a sense of closeness and establish a connection with you.
You’re likely dealing with sociopaths if they say the most ridiculous things you do resonate with them. The self-aware sociopath says she usually tests others by sharing something random as “I love knitting”, and if the other person is a fellow sociopath, they would say they love the hobby, too, or try to discuss it further involving third parties to create a sense of familiarity.
She also tests them by bringing up various emotions to see how they react
You catch them lying
Serial liars are known to have mastered the art of deception for a long time. Sociopaths, as Kanika says, lie their way out of situations.
However, when you catch them, the mask of “sanity and kindness” slips easily and they can’t hold up their true colors anymore.
