11 common foods from your everyday cupboard that are healthy and delicious to dogs

The pet food industry may be projected to reach $190.94 billion by 2029, but there are also some human foods that your dog can eat.

If youve got a dog then youll already know how expensive their upkeep can be, with some foods racking up double digits for a single month. Though your dogs diet should predominantly be made from said food, here are some typically human foods your dog can eat.

Cooked spinach

As reported by the American Kennel Club, small quantities of cooked spinach can be hugely beneficial for your dog. The superfood contains vitamins A, B, C, and K while also providing a source of iron and antioxidants.

There is, however, some research suggesting that large quantities of spinach could result in kidney damage thanks to high amounts of oxalic acid. If youre still unsure about the amount, then always consult your vet first.

Plain yogurt

Unsweetened Greek or plain yogurt is the perfect treat for your dog in small quantities largely thanks to its calcium content. Yogurt is also full of probiotics and protein!

Yogurt is even yummier frozen, meaning you can make some dog-friendly ice cream during the hotter months.

As a fruit naturally high in sugar, blueberries should only be eaten in moderation or as an occasional treat. They are full of antioxidants, which prevent cell damage, fiber, and phytochemicals.

Sweet potatoes

Much like their owners, dogs are occasionally partial to some cooked sweet potato. Of course, this should be completely plain and without herbs, spices, or oils.

A lot of commercial dog foods also use sweet potato as their carbohydrate ingredient, but again, moderation is king.

Though dogs are allowed to partake in the American classic, be sure to look out for an artificial sweetener called Xylitol.

Peanut butter can also be put inside toys and lick mats for some added enrichment!

Watermelon

As long as they arent consuming the pips or rind, it is perfectly safe for your pooch to chow down on some watermelon. The fruit also freezes incredibly well, so keep that in mind as the year rolls around to summer.

Mango

Much like watermelon, dogs should only consume mango once it has been skinned and de-pipped. Its packed full of nutrients, but can also be high in natural sugar.

Fish

Fish is great for the health of both dogs and humans, but with so many varieties, it can be difficult to nail down the healthiest options. As reported by Purina, Tuna, salmon, whitefish, co, and whiting are all standout choices.

If youre purchasing fresh fish, be sure to debone it correctly to prevent choking.

Cucumber

As its mostly water, cucumber is a solid snack choice for your best friend. During the summer months, it can even be vital in keeping your dog hydrated.

Though your dogs should not need any supplements besides their standard food, cucumbers are also full of vitamins K, C, and B.

Cashew

Though some nuts like pistachios and macadamia are off the table, roasted (not raw) cashews are fine for your dog. Of course, these should be plain and shelled completely.

Coconut

Coconut products are largely safe for dogs, but you have to be careful about additives and preservatives. As such, fresh coconut is always best.
