100-year-old lives by famous quote

“There are three little lines, I read them in a book years ago,” Munn said during an interview for the Australian chat show The Project. He then recalled the quote: “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.”

The eye-opening saying shows how yesterday has already happened, so there’s no point worrying about it. Tomorrow hasn’t happened yet, so we can’t predict the future. However, today is special and it’s your choice what you choose to do with it.

Munn told everyone to “enjoy it” and “do what you want to do” because you only have one life and it’s important to live it to the fullest.

The exact origin of the quote is not clear, but it has been said by numerous people including Eleanor Roosevelt. It was also famously used by Master Oogway in the 2008 DreamWorks animation Kung Fu Panda.

The full saying goes: “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift, and that is why its called the present.”

‘Trying to make people happy’

Munn went on to highlight the importance of kindness, saying he goes through life as a normal person who is always trying to make people happy.

“I say good morning to them when I see them and when someone says good morning to me, that makes my day,” he said.

Research shows that people who are kind and/compassionate experience clear benefits to their well-being/and/happiness, the Mental Health Foundation explains. It also reduces stress, improves mood and may even help people live longer.

They did a study and found that 63% of UK adults agree that when others are kind it has a positive effect on their mental health. The same percentage also agree that being kind to others is positive for their mental health.
