Capcom has delivered a huge double treat for gamers by launching a ‘historic’ Street Fighter V finale while bringing classics such as Ghouls ‘n Ghosts back to life via Arcade Stadium.
Street Fighter V was released in 2016 to the delight of fight-game fans across the world.
Since then, the game has continued to grow and evolve into the action-packed powerhouse it is today.
And now there’s a real treat for fans of the franchise as Capcom drops the ‘historic’ fifth and final season of this gaming giant.
Street Fighter V – the new stuff
SFV Season V sees the reintroduction of character Dan Hibiki and free content for all PS4 and Steam players.
New goodies include a ‘V-Shift’ battle mechanic, a new training stage and an updated battle balance for all playable characters.
Dan returns in style with his trademark taunts and self-proclaimed ‘Master of Saikyo’ fighting style. A mainstay from the Street Fighter Alpha series and last appearing in Street Fighter IV, Dan is a training partner of Ryu and Ken.
Dan can be added to Street Fighter V rosters via the Season 5 Character Pass or Season 5 Premium Pass. He can also be acquired separately.
V-Shift battle mechanic slows time
The free update sees the powerful V-Shift battle mechanic give players all-new defensive options and strategies.
Costing just one bar of V-Gauge, when timed correctly V-Shift allows players to execute a fully invincible backdash that slows time for a short period. It helps fighters plan counter attacks.
In addition, players can acquire free training stage The Grid Alternative as well as an updated battle balance for all playable characters. This adds even more gameplay depth and enhancement to the Street Fighter V combat system.
Four further fighters to come
The rest of Season 5 will see four further characters join the fight – Rose (this spring), Oro and Akira (in the summer), and an unannounced character (before the end of the year).
In total, 26 new costumes and two new stages are planned for Season 5, including a Rose stage and Akira stage when the characters are introduced.
Capcom Arcade Stadium
As if Street Fighter V wasn’t enough, Capcom have spoiled gamers further by releasing its Arcade Stadium, which brings 32 classic games to Nintendo Switch including Strider and Ghouls ’n Ghosts.
All 32 games in Capcom Arcade Stadium are available for digital download from Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch. There are three packs of ten games, with each highlighting an era of Capcom arcade brilliance.
The collection also includes the free-to-download 1943: The Battle Of Midway and separate add-on title Ghosts ‘n Goblins.
Retro fans can select specific packs or purchase an all-in-one option containing all 32 games. Ghosts ‘n Goblins will be available as an add-on.
32 classic games to choose from
Gamers can now access Eighties classics such as Bionic Commando and Strider, and Nineties favourites such as Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
If, like me, you’ve been bored stiff during the big gaming lull in the first quarter of 2021, Capcom is about to bring some much-needed excitement to your living room.
