New Sony Haven studio shines light on ‘new worlds’: Sony has done its best to stir up one of the most stale periods in gaming history by launching new studio Haven and a mouth-watering sale.
It’s fair to say the post-launch line-up of games for Sony’s PS5 and the new Xbox Series X has been pretty boring.
Proof – if it were needed – comes in the fact I haven’t switched on my PS5 for more than a month.
But it appears there’s some light at the end of the snoozefest first-quarter tunnel.
Sony Haven studio to shine light on ‘new worlds’
Sony Haven, a new Sony studio announced this week, is the company’s newest project. Sony will be working on an as-yet unnamed game.
Jade Raymond, who used to be part of Stadia and is famed for working on titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs, has announced she will head Haven and has the backing of Sony regarding a new IP.
Raymond wrote on the Playstation Blog: “We want to create worlds where players can escape, have fun, express themselves and find community.
“We want to pour our passion into a project. We want to make something wondrous for people to experience because we believe in the power of games to bring joy to people’s lives – and Sony does too.
“Its commitment to excellence is unmatched. It’s why I couldn’t be happier for (Sony’s) backing and support.”
We’ve been craving Sony Haven
Raymond has 25 years in the industry under her belt and wants to create games that are a “haven for players” and a studio that’s a “haven for developers”.
She said: “I want the PlayStation community to know Haven Studios is already hard at work on an unannounced IP.
“We can’t wait to show you more!”
Mega March sale
Another welcome announcement from Sony this week came in the form of its ‘Mega March’ sale on PlayStation Store.
There are some genuine savings on top games to be had, with as much as 70% off some PS4 and PS5 games.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (35% off), Rainbow Six Siege: Deluxe Edition (70% off), FIFA 21 Ultimate Edition (55% off) and The Sims 4 (75% off) are just some of the highlights.
All the games will work across PS4 and PS5, although it’s worth noting some games in the sale are PS4 versions with the ability to play on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
Meanwhile, the likes of Crash and Rainbow Six Siege include a free PS5 upgrade. That means they will play on PS4 but can also be upgraded to an enhanced, next-gen version for free.
