AMD just launched the Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card, featuring RDNA™ 2 architecture and “remarkably efficient” – per the company’s own description – but what is its suggested retail price, and how much is it actually going for?

RX 6500 XT graphics card price explored

The MRSP, or manufacturer’s suggested retail price – equivalent to RRP (recommended retail price) – of the RX 6500 XT graphics card is $199.

It’s in this vein that reviewers are calling it a “budget” GPU. Although not all reviewers are satisfied to call it that: Tom’s Hardware calls it “not really a budget card”.

Especially, TH continues, since chances aren’t all that high that you’ll actually be able to bag an RX 6500 XT for its starting price.

Why is the price of the RX 6500 XT likely to increase?

Games Radar has already reported that the Radeon GPUs are “selling out extremely quickly”. Earlier today, it was available from Newegg for $279 – $80 above the MRSP – “but far cheaper than this video card is likely to be after today”.

And, true enough, Newegg now lists the 6500 as out of stock. For those in the UK, the Radeon RX 6500 XT is currently available from OverClockers for the price of £239 – they have “10+” in stock.

However, customers can only buy one at a time, “due to high demand”.

Five results already appear on Ebay for RX 6500 XT GPUs, the cheapest of which is priced at $384. The most expensive is $540.

How does the cost of Radeon’s newest GPU compare to other similar graphics cards?

In its in-depth review of the Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card, Tom’s Hardware writer Jarred Walton concludes that he can “only hope it will actually cost $199”.

They give it three stars out of five.

“Unfortunately,” reads the outlet’s verdict, “the price only qualifies as ‘budget’ in today’s world of radically inflated GPU prices.”

“Assuming you can actually purchase the Radeon RX 6500 XT for $199,” it goes on, “or at least somewhat close to it, it’s not a bad card.”

The card’s real competition, TH reckons, is Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3050, which has an official launch price of $249.
