God Of War features father-son duo
After a yearlong wait, God Of War: Ragnarok finally had its title confirmed with a new trailer at the PlayStation Showcase on Thursday, 9 September.
The highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s God Of War follows papa Kratos and his growing boy, Atreus, on their wintery mission to find an important member of the Norse pantheon on the eve of Ragnarok.
According to ScreenRant, a centring part of God Of War: Ragnarok’s story appears to be the father-son duo seeking out Tyr, the Norse god of war.
The other major aspect revealed about the story is Atreus’ desire to find out about his true identity as Loki.
When the trailer begins, it seems like he and Kratos have been in hiding since the end of God Of War 2018, with Kratos worrying Atreus’ curiosity will lead to a fight against the gods.
Who is Atreus in God Of War: Ragnarok?
Atreus, also known as Loki, is a major protagonist of the God Of War video game franchise appearing as the deuteragonist of the Norse Era games.
In 2018’s God Of War, we learn that Atreus is the son of Kratos and Faye, a giant from Jotunheim. (Remember, giants are a mythic Norse race and don’t necessarily have to be large in size.)
But the surprises don’t stop there.
At the end of God Of War, Kratos and Atreus see a giant mural that recounts their adventures and lives.
That’s when we learn that Atreus is actually the Trickster Norse god, Loki.
In addition to the heart-stopping plot twist, the mural also depicts Kratos’ death, with Atreus standing nearby.
As such, it’s possible that we’ll see the death of Kratos in God Of War: Ragnarok and that Atreus could even be the one to kill him.
Who is Atreus’ voice actor, Sunny Suljic?
Sunny Suljic voices Kratos’ son, Atreus, in God Of War: Ragnarok.
Suljic is an American child actor and skateboarder. He is known for The Killing Of A Sacred Deer (2017), Jonah Hill’s Mid90s (2018), Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot (2018) and The House With A Clock In Its Walls (2018).
Suljic first did voice work and motion capture for Atreus in 2018’s God Of War, for which he was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Performance in a Video Game.
Suljic was born in Roswell, Georgia, on 10 August 2005.
He is currently studying at a local private school in Los Angeles, California.
