The Premier League is back this Saturday and that means Fantasy Premier League football is back too.

Picking your Fantasy Premier League team can be tough and finding the right balance of bargains and quality is a real skill.

It’s ultimately a game of chance, but the best Fantasy Premier League players make their own luck by doing their research.

With that in mind, here are two players for every position you should consider putting in your side for Gameweek One.

Goalkeepers

After starring again in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool, Emi Martinez looks set to be finally given his chance as Arsenal number one.

You would expect him to keep a clean sheet against newly promoted Fulham – even with Arsenal’s defence in front of him. At £4.5m he could be a real bargain.

Alisson proved again last season why he’s the best goalkeeper in the Premier League as he helped Liverpool to a first title in 30 years.

The Reds host Leeds in their opening fixture. Marcelo Bielsa’s side could spring a few surprises, but after two seasons of elite performances you have to back the Brazilian to deliver.

Defenders

Bargain Buy

Wolves have one of the best defences in the Premier League. While Conor Coady has stolen the headlines recently with his England call-up, Romain Saiss could prove even better value.

Saiss popped up with three goals last season and is a threat from set pieces. With Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves acting as providers, he could easily start this season with a bang.

Big Money Purchase

It’s obvious, we know, but Trent Alexander-Arnold is simply a must-have in the Fantasy Premier League.

The 21-year-old made 13 assists from right-back last season! To add to that he also plays in one of the sturdiest defences in the league.

Midfielders

Bargain Buy

If Tomas Soucek is available after quarantining with the Czech Republic national team last week he could be a real steal at just £5m.

The West Ham man popped up with three goals in the Premier League in the second half of last season. Goalscoring midfielders rarely come cheap but Soucek is one to keep an eye on.

Big Money Purchase

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been rebranded as a midfielder this season, and it’s fair to say the Fantasy Premier League community is very happy.

His goals are set to count for five points rather than four. Given how many of them he gets – 22 last season – the Arsenal captain is another must-have in any team.

It’s hard to get good value for strikers in the FPL, but Michail Antonio could be worth a gamble.

The 30-year-old was in the form of his life during project restart, managing nine goal involvements in just 14 appearances. Antonio has never been able to find consistency before, but now is the time to take a risk on him.

If it weren’t for the sublime performances of Robert Lewandowski, Timo Werner would have been the best player in the Bundesliga last season.

He has looked sharp in pre-season and for the German national team since his move to Chelsea. You’d back him to score on debut for the Blues against Brighton on Monday night.
