Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos feels his side deserved their 3-1 win over Liverpool last night and could have scored even more.

Liverpool were sluggish in the first half and went in at the interval 2-0 down thanks to goals from Vinicius and Marco Asensio.

The second half was better for the Reds – as Kroos acknowledged – but the German still felt his side had the chances to score four or five.

That kind of scoreline would likely have finished the tie, although perhaps some Liverpool fans would point to the 4-0 win over Barcelona in 2019 as evidence that anything is possible.

“There’s no question that we deserved the victory today,” Kroos told Sony Sports when asked if 3-1 was a fair result.

“My opinion is the second half was a little bit different, a little bit more possession for Liverpool but we still had clear chances.

“And that’s why to be honest, this result is okay today but it was more than possible to score four or five goals.

“We’re happy with today’s game but we know what can happen at this level – we have to go there and try and attack to get through to the semi-finals.”

In front of a full Anfield, getting a 2-0 home win would be a genuine possibility for Liverpool.

Behind closed doors, it makes it more difficult. On top of that, Liverpool’s home form has been poor since the turn of the year.

The way Madrid attacked last night, it’s hard to see them not scoring at Anfield.

But with Liverpool in the Champions League, anything is possible and Kroos seems to know that the job is not done yet.
