Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is close to joining Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.
They claim Mikel Arteta’s men will raise around £20 million for selling the Argentine stopper.
The Spaniard apparently wants more outgoings before the end of the transfer window.
The Guardian report that the Gunners want £18 million for Lucas Torreira, although Torino and Fiorentina are only interested in loan swoops at present.
That would represent a £8.5 million loss on what they paid for the Uruguayan in 2018.
It is also a reflection of Arsenal’s desire to raise cash for new arrivals in the current window.
Getting £18 million for Torreira to go with the £20 million for Martinez would go a long way towards Thomas Partey’s £46 million (Guardian) release clause at Atletico Madrid.
If selling the South American duo could get Arsenal within £8 million of the midfielder’s asking price, the club would hope to find the rest of that fee.
There has been an acceptance at Arsenal this summer that decent players, not just absolute outcasts, may need to be sold in order to raise funds for the players Mikel Arteta really wants.
That’s why Martinez and Torreira could be so crucial to their attempts to land Partey this summer.
