Liverpool look set to have Joel Matip back for their next Premier League match, the top-of-the-table clash with arch rivals Manchester United.
According to the Mirror, the centre-back will be ready to face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side when they meet on Sunday, 17 January at 4.30pm.
Before that, manager Jurgen Klopp may look to utilise some of his promising youngsters in his injury-hit defence for Friday’s FA Cup clash at Aston Villa.
Matip has been in and out of the starting XI this season with several injury problems.
His latest injury – an adductor strain suffered against West Brom last month – saw him miss the games against Newcastle and Southampton.

With the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez also injured, Klopp was forced to play captain Jordan Henderson alongside Fabinho at the back against the Saints. Both are much better suited to central midfield.
Speaking about Matip’s most recent injury, Klopp said: “The normal stuff with these kinds of injuries, (he will be out for) about three weeks.”
But his time on the sidelines looks set to come to an end just in time for the club’s meeting with Manchester United, who sit joint top of the table with the Reds.
