Tottenham Hotspur continued their impressive run of form last night as they easily dispatched Bulgarian side Ludogorets 4-0 in the Europa League.
The result puts Spurs on the brink of qualifying for the last 32 of the competition.
There were a string of eye-catching performances from Spurs’ stars. Manager Jose Mourinho would have been especially pleased to see summer signing Carlos Vinicius score his first two goals for the club.
Meanwhile, Harry Winks ended his two-year goal drought with a long-range wonder goal Mourinho later told Sky Sports he “didn’t mean”.
However, it was midfielder Dele Alli who particularly stood out for sections of the club’s supporters.
Dele dazzles
The 24-year-old produced a dazzling display, registering an assist and exuding class as he was handed a rare start by Jose Mourinho.
Alli looked to be back to his best form, and some Spurs fans took to Twitter to praise the midfielder’s contribution:
Alli’s tough start to the season
Alli has endured a difficult start to the campaign. He hasn’t started a Premier League match since the opening game of the season, when he was hauled off at half-time.
Indeed, he has been left out of seven of the past eight squads in the league since that match.
He failed to make the most of his last start for Tottenham as well. Mourinho opted to replace him at the break during the defeat against Antwerp last month.
Yet there were clear signs Alli was enjoying his football again last night.
The two-time PFA Young Player Of The Year looked to have his confidence back as Spurs wrapped up a resounding victory.
Tricky fixture list ahead
The performance may well have put Alli back in Mourinho’s domestic plans. The side is gearing up for a testing schedule in the run-up to Christmas.
The Premier League leaders face Chelsea on Sunday before hosting north London rivals Arsenal the following weekend.
Further games against Liverpool and Leicester are also on the horizon as Mourinho’s men look to cement their place at the top of the table.
