Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson has hailed the influence of Allan Saint-Maximin.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Anderson has said the wideman helps keep his confidence up.
Anderson has made his debut this season but needs to keep working hard to nail down a regular spot in the side.
Injuries to Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Saint-Maximin himself may help Anderson’s cause in the weeks to come.
“He has been a massive help. He gives me a bit of confidence boost sometimes when I’ve been left out of the squad, he’ll message me and tells me to keep working and I will get my chance.
“When I first game up, he made me feel part of the squad through his Instagram posts, and it makes you realise he’s there for you.”
There was also praise for under-fire boss Steve Bruce: “The gaffer he helps me, gives me a bit of confidence and ultimately he’s given me my debut.
“I am very happy that he has given me the sort of confidence to go out and do that.”
It remains to be seen whether Bruce will put his faith in a youngster like Anderson at such a crucial time.
But he will hope to get the odd opportunity off the bench and if he can find the back of the net then who knows?
It seems like Saint-Maximin will be helping him every step of the way, whether or not further first team recognition comes Anderson’s way.
