Liverpool fans have sent a tidal wave of support to Jordan Henderson after it was confirmed their “captain fantastic” will be sidelined by injury for up to ten weeks.
The Reds captain underwent surgery after suffering a groin injury against Everton in the derby last weekend.
Henderson responded to the update on Twitter and Liverpool fans were quick to offer their sympathies and encouragement:
Henderson addes to injury woes
No date has been set for the 30-year-old’s return but BBC Sport suggests the Liverpool skipper could be out for between eight and ten weeks.
That would mean Henderson would be out of the squad until the end of April or beginning of May.
Games he will definitely miss include the crunch Permier League clash with Chelsea on Thursday (4 March at 8.15pm) and the second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League tie against RB Leipzig.
Away league trips to Arsenal, Leeds United and Manchester United also lie on the horizon, although there’s an international break scheduled for March.
Jurgen Klopp will hope many of his players are spared over-strenuous trips away.
Reds in ruins
Henderson is the latest casualty in Liverpool’s much-reported season of woe.
Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Fabinho and James Milner are all on the treatment table after two massively strenuous seasons stretch Klopp’s squad to the limit.
Klopp is now missing five senior centre-backs as Henderson and Fabinho have been filling in at the heart of defence.
Deadline-day signings Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies smack of panic buying but Klopp may have to make them his first-choice centre-back pairing.
Kabak has yet to convince on his four starts for Liverpool, whereas Davies has yet to experience a minute of senior action for his new club.
Klopp can still call on promising youngsters Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams.
Between them, they have played more than 11 hours of Premier League football in 2020/21.
Whatever decision Klopp makes, it’s hard to believe how unlucky he has been this season.
Perhaps the only good news to come out of Liverpool’s camp is that Diogo Joto could be fit for Sunday’s clash at Sheffield United.
The Portugal international has been suffering from a knee problem for some time but has returned to training and could be in line to feature versus the Blades.
