Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp says he disagrees with Jose Mourinho’s claim Tottenham are a ‘pony’ in the Premier League title race.

Speaking on the Pitch to Post podcast, Redknapp ran the rule over Tottenham’s backline and claimed it’s full of talent.

There was praise for summer signings Sergio Reguilon and Joe Rodon, as well as captain Hugo Lloris.

Mourinho’s side sit top of the league but he has been trying to manage expectations by talking down his side’s title chances.

“They’re certainly not the little pony he suggests,” said Redknapp. “They’ve got France’s goalkeeper, two great right backs in Doherty and Aurier.

“Dier, England centre back, Alderweireld, centre back for the number one team in the world. They’ve just signed the young man Rodon who has got international caps.

“Reguilon is as good a left back as I’ve seen in a long time. Sanchez isn’t even playing but he’s got lots of international caps.”

Mourinho has defensive depth across the back four now, and Reguilon has come in and hit the ground running especially.

In Premier League terms, Andy Robertson is the man for Reguilon to beat really.

Redknapp is inferring the Spaniard is as good as the title-winner, who has been outstanding for three seasons now.

He needs to add more consistency to be talked about in those terms, but he is blistering going forward and solid defensively.

That’s relegated Ben Davies into the Europa League side largely and Redknapp is clearly a huge fan already.
