Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to social media urging Jose Mourinho to select Dennis Cirkin for tomorrow’s Europa League clash against Austrian side Wolfsberger.

The cries for Cirkin came after the Spurs manager confirmed in his press conference that left-back Sergio Reguilon won’t feature in the first-leg clash (5.55pm).

The Spaniard’s absence has already had a serious effect on Tottenham’s season. They have lost four out of five Premier League matches without him in the line-up.

Thankfully for Spurs, the threat of their Austrian hosts shouldn’t be too severe and Reguilon’s exclusion hopefully won’t turn out to be significant.

That’s why there were many shouts on Twitter for Mourinho to give Cirkin a rare run-out.

Here’s what some Tottenham fans had to say on Twitter about the situation:

Clamour for Cirkin call-up?

Cirkin, primarily a left-back, has yet to feature for Spurs’ first XI but has made plenty of appearances for the club’s academy and development sides.

He sat on the bench for Spurs’ last two European home matches in the Europa League group stage but failed to make it on to the pitch.

Davies fails to deliver

In Reguilon’s absence, Mourinho has mainly opted for Ben Davies but the team has lacked its usual attacking potency.

Reguilon offers real pace and expert delivery from wide areas. Davies may provide better defensive qualities but even those have been lacking in recent weeks.

This weakness down Spurs’ left has sent a ripple through their whole system.

Harry Kane feeds on crosses into the box from Reguilon rather than having to constantly rely on going it alone.

Davies rarely ventures forward and Tottenham’s defence has looked nothing like the compact unit we saw at the beginning of the season.

There won’t be many better opportunities to try out Spurs’ young talent or fringe players. Why not give Cirkin a chance against Wolfsberger?
