Mohamed Salah’s ‘jaw-dropping’ numbers deserve more recognition, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson told the club’s official website.

The winger’s stunning strike in the recent Merseyside derby draw saw him reach 100 goals for the Reds in just 159 appearances.

Only club legends Roger Hunt and Jack Parkinson have achieved the astonishing milestone in fewer matches.

And Henderson believes the Egyptian is often judged on the standards he set in his debut season at Liverpool, where he netted 44 goals in all competitions.

Henderson praises Salah

“Mo’s numbers are jaw-dropping,” said Henderson. “He’s achieved his century in just 159 appearances – that is computer game stuff!

“I read that Mo got to this milestone in the third-quickest time in LFC history.

“The other two Liverpool players who got to a century quicker are Roger Hunt and Jack Parkinson – and we are going back quite a long time. It just emphasises the enormity of his contribution.

“I shouldn’t be surprised, but it yet again underlines just how blessed we all are to be working with him, or be a supporter of this club at the time he is here with us.”

Already among Liverpool greats

Despite only joining the Merseyside outfit in 2017, Salah already finds himself in Liverpool’s all-time top ten league goalscorers.

He has overtaken the likes of John Toshack, Luis Suarez and Kevin Keegan in recent months, with his 79 goals just five off John Barnes’ tally of 84.

Consistently high numbers

After a miserable period with Chelsea – where he scored just twice in 13 appearances – Salah has featured heavily in the Premier League goalscoring charts.

The 28-year-old clinched back-to-back Golden Boots between 2017 and 2019, winning the first of those two with 32 goals.

Salah then shared the second of his honours with team-mate Sadio Mane and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who all scored 22 times throughout the 2018/19 campaign.
