New Chelsea signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner scored for Germany in a thrilling draw with Switzerland in the Nations League.

Switzerland burst into a two-goal lead before Werner and Havertz both netted to make it 2-2, but Mario Gavranovic scored his second to give Switzerland the lead once more.

Serge Gnabry scored Germany’s third in a remarkable game, in which the two Chelsea forwards discovered form ahead of the Premier League’s return.

Werner on the hunt for first Premier League goal

Chelsea signed Werner from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for £45 million, but the 24-year-old is yet to score in the Premier League.

Werner scored his first goal for the Blues in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, which resulted in a penalty shootout defeat for Frank Lampard’s side.

Only four games into his first Premier League season, it is still early to question Werner’s ability as he boasted an impressive Bundesliga record.

In 127 Bundesliga appearances for RB Leipzig, Werner scored 78 goals and became the club’s record goalscorer.

Havertz: exciting prospect for club and country

At only 21 years of age, it would be wrong to rush into judgement about Havertz’s Chelsea career so far.

Havertz became Chelsea’s record signing for an outfield player when the Blues signed him for £71 million, as part of a large summer spending spree.

Although the young German is yet to score in the Premier League, he scored a hattrick against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

Havzerts emerged as one of Germany’s brightest young players for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

In 118 appearances for the club, Havertz scored 36 goals and made 25 assists in an attacking midfield role.

He has made 10 appearances for Joachim Low’s Germany, he scored his second goal for his country as he equalised against Switzerland last night.
