Celtic manager Neil Lennon has labelled the display by Jeremie Frimpong against Milan last night as “outstanding”, as reported by Glasgow Live.

Celtic slipped to a 4-2 defeat in Italy despite starting the game in brilliant fashion. However, Lennon was pleased with a number of individual performances, especially that of Frimpong, who was pushed further up the field.

“The scoreline doesn’t do us justice,” the under-pressure manager said.

“(Odsonne) Edouard looked more like himself. Frimpong looked outstanding and (Callum) McGregor had a really good game.”

Frimpong missed Celtic’s disastrous League Cup defeat to Ross County at the weekend because of suspension.

Frimpong returns to the fold

The Dutch teenager returned to the fold last night as the Hoops put in a much-improved display.

Lennon’s men raced into a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Tom Rogic and Edouard. However, they were swiftly pegged back before thoughts could drift to a revitalising win.

Serie A leaders Milan scored twice in two first-half minutes through Hakan Calhanoglu and Samu Castillejo to level matters.

The outstanding Jens Petter Hauge then netted a stunning solo goal before Brahim Diaz put the result beyond doubt.

 

Celtic have now conceded four times in each of their last three Europa League fixtures.

Lennon: ‘I got it all tonight’

However, Lennon believes there were signs last night to give him hope his side can turn their slump around.

He said: “We’ve taken the game to Milan and got some respectability back in our performance. I think I got all that tonight. The players showed what they’re capable of.”

With their place at the bottom of Group H confirmed, Celtic can now turn their attention to the league.

Despite only losing one SPL match so far, the side find themselves 11 points adrift of Rangers in the table. They do have two games in hand on their arch rivals, though.

The defending champions are back in action on Sunday when they host St Johnstone.

Having failed to win their last four games in all competitions, the pressure is mounting on Lennon to get a much-needed three points.
