Uncertainty over youngster Folarin Balogun’s Arsenal future has rumbled on all season long.
The young striker’s contract is expiring at the end of the current campaign and an extension doesn’t seem imminent at this stage.
It remains to be seen whether he will still be at the Emirates Stadium next season.
And former Gunners hitman Benik Afobe has told TBG Pod that he feels Balogun should make a move in the summer.
“It all depends on who’s ahead of you,” he said. “Balogun, I’ve seen him play – he’s good.
“And I think it’s the right decision for him to leave. Because the captain (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang) is a number nine.
“The top scorer this season(Alexandre Lacazette) is a number nine. And Eddie Nketiah is a couple of years older than him and has done well.
“If you keep waiting for your chance, before you know it you’re 23 and managers will start picking players who have more appearances – 100 appearances in the Championship. That happened to me.”
Balogun may feel the time is right to do what Tariq Lamptey did; leave a huge club in Chelsea in order to play every week.
Now the defender’s stock is way higher than it would have been if he’d just stayed in reserve for the Blues.
Balogun’s route to the first team looks a tough one to navigate, but there is one potential ray of hope.
Reports this week suggested that Lacazette and Nketiah could leave in the summer, which may allow Balogun more opportunities next season if he stays.
