Jamie Redknapp and Micah Richards were in awe of Tomas Soucek during West Ham United’s huge capital city conquest over Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, speaking on Sky Sports.

The 2-1 derby victory meant much more than just personal pride for West Ham fans.

The win meant David Moyes’ men moved above Chelsea into fourth place in the Premier League table.

Hardened Hammers

One of the keys to this upturn in form has been Soucek, who was immense yet again yesterday.

The Czech Republic midfielder made four clearances, won five aerial duels, and won two tackles against Tottenham, according to WhoScored.com.

Soucek played most of the match with a patched-up eye following a nasty collision with Japhet Tanganga.

Soucek soldiered on and Redknapp and Richards had nothing but admiration for the 25-year-old during their half-time analysis.

Richards said: “Soucek, he’s like a man mountain in there. His mentality now is different level.”

Redknapp repled: “He’s like the Terminator. When he gets knocked down he bounces back up. That’s what you want in your team.

“He gets a massive cut but gets straight back up. That is Arnold Schwarzenegger. That is what you want in your team.”

Sensational Soucek

That commitment by Soucek embodied West Ham this season.

The Hammers can be considered serious challengers for the Champions League places following the 2-1 win.

Goals from Michail Antonio and the rejuvenated Jesse Lingard ensured a huge three points for West Ham, who have proved their great first half of the season is no fluke.

It was a dogged and determined display against Spurs, with genuine moments of quality.

Soucek is West Ham’s top scorer in 2020/21 with eight goals but, as he proved yesterday, the Czech international’s worth covers the whole pitch.

His consistency in both boxes will be vital if West Ham are to stay in those top four spaces.

West Ham now face what is the toughest battle in the Premier League – Manchester City away (Saturday at 12.30pm).

There’s no doubt super Soucek “will be back”.
