David Luiz had some positive words to share with Kieran Tierney as the Arsenal pair continue their recovery from injury.

Tierney recently joined his Gunners teammate on the treatment table after suffering a potentially season-ending knee problem against Liverpool at the weekend.

Luiz was already sidelined having undergone minor surgery on his own knee.

Today, the Brazilian posted a picture of Tierney on Instagram accompanied by some encouraging words:

Arsenal missing main men

Mikel Arteta’s defence has been dealt two big blows ahead of tonight’s hugely important Europa League tie at home to Slavia Prague (8pm kick-off).

The long-term absence of Tierney, who had arguably been the Gunners most consistent player, is the biggest blow for Arteta.

The Spaniard’s left-back options are limited to say the least, with no real recognised back-up for the Scotland international.

Cedric Soares has often filled in at left-back but is more at home on the opposite flank. Bukayo Saka can also do a job, yet his skills are better deployed further forward.

Better off for centre-backs

Arteta does have natural replacements for Luiz, however. Rob Holding and Gabriel partnered for the 3-0 humbling at home to Liverpool on Saturday, with Pablo Mari rested on the bench.

Calum Chambers can also play at centre-half, although he has been enjoying a revival at right-back.

Whichever way Arteta goes, he will be forced to reshuffle his back four once more.

Prague pack a punch

This constant chopping and changing means the Gunners haven’t kept a clean sheet since drawing a blank with Manchester United in late January.

That’s 13 games without a shut-out in all competitions and Arsenal are unlikely to get relief when they face Slavia Prague tonight.

The Czech champions have knocked out Rangers and Leicester City in previous rounds and won a domestic cup tie 10-2 this season. Arsenal must not underestimate them.

Let’s hope Luiz and Tierney aren’t in more pain after the full-time whistle and are back in first-team contention as soon as possible. Come on Arsenal!
