Liverpool could be made to regret not bringing in Brighton youngster Ben White, with the Reds now struggling with a worrying injury crisis at the back.

Liverpool were linked with Ben White

This Is Anfield reported that Jurgen Klopp was showing heavy interest in the defender this time last year, but White instead returned to parent club Brighton after a loan spell in the Championship with Leeds.

The Reds could certainly be doing with an extra centre-back at the moment, given the club’s ever-growing injury list.

Virgil van Dijk looks set to miss the remainder of the campaign, with Trent Alexander-Arnold suffering a hamstring injury against Manchester City on Sunday.

Makeshift centre-back Fabinho is also out with a hamstring injury, while Joe Gomez could be out of action for a while after pulling up injured while on duty with the England national team.

Youngsters filling in at the back

Liverpool have more recently been linked with Schalke defender Ozan Kabak, but Klopp is seemingly uninterested in new recruits and has instead turned to those already within his ranks.

Youngsters Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams have been thrust into the senior team in recent weeks, with the former picking up the man of the match award in his Premier League debut against West Ham, and the latter helping the side to a clean sheet in the 5-0 Champions League win at Atalanta.

Strong individual displays from White

Ben White has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with the Seagulls, and has featured in all eight of the club’s league games after helping Leeds gain promotion back to the top-flight last season.

The 23-year-old’s versatility has shone through, with White playing in a defensive midfield role in three of those appearances.

Klopp boasts his own versatile player in veteran James Milner, and the former Manchester City and Aston Villa man may be forced into another position change in the coming weeks, with Joel Matip Liverpool’s only fit senior centre-back.
