Fabinho looks set to return to the Liverpool side for tonight’s clash with Chelsea at Anfield.

The Brazilian has played most of his football at centre-half this season but there have been calls for him to return to midfield lately.

Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak kept a clean sheet against Sheffield United, but Reds legend John Aldridge told the Sunday World he feels Fabinho should go into the back four tonight.

He feels Kabak would benefit from playing alongside Fabinho against Thomas Tuchel’s resurgent side.

“The midfield and defence have suffered with all the injury problems, but Fabinho is most useful in the defence at the moment. Ozan Kabak has struggled at times since he came into the team.

“But it is tough for him to be thrown in there without an experienced partner. That’s why I think having the experience of a player like Fabinho next to him could help.

“Liverpool have more options in midfield, but the centre of defence has been a problem all season for Liverpool and it is the area they need to get right in they are to have any chance of a top four finish.

“Chelsea have some dangerous forward players and the defence needs to be right for this massive game. So for me, that means putting Fabinho in defence.”

Jurgen Klopp likely dipped into the transfer market for central defenders with one eye on getting Fabinho back into midfield.

But it depends if he trusts Kabak and Phillips to put a run of games together, even for games against the very best opponents.

Ben Davies is also yet to make his debut but it’s likely he’d appreciate a steady, experienced presence next to him when he does.

That said, Liverpool’s midfield has sorely missed Fabinho and that’s been exacerbated by Jordan Henderson’s injury too.
