Tottenham enjoyed an almost perfect night on their return to Europa League action last night.

Dele Alli and Gareth Bale got a rare start and both impressed in the 4-1 vs Wolfsberger.

Bale’s stunning second goal will grab the attention when analysing his performance.

He cut inside from the right with a sumptuous flick before rifling in a goal that was trademark Bale.

As per WhoScored, that goal was one of two shots on target for Bale last night before he was replaced on 63 minutes.

He also made four key passes and went on three dribbles on a night where Bale looked closer to his best form again.

Those attacking returns are the reason he’s in the team but he also showed another side to his game last night.

And it’s likely to be one which impressed Jose Mourinho, who demands his wingers contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Even on a night where Spurs were dominant, a hungry Bale made four tackles.

That’s more than anyone else in a Spurs shirt last night – and Bale also swung across five crosses.

And he had a 100 per cent passing accuracy – although admittedly he somehow only made 16 passes in over an hour on the pitch.

Mourinho doesn’t want his wingers giving the ball at every turn – so every facet of Bale’s performance last night will have pleased him.
