What is the McRib?

The most recent addition to the McDonald’s seasonal menu, the McRib is a barbecue-flavoured pork sandwich.

Consisting of a boneless pork patty covered in barbecue sauce, the menu item also includes pickles and onions sandwiched in a toasted homemade-style bun.

The McRib contains 520 calories and can be purchased alone for $4.29 or as a combo meal for $7.79.

Why is it a seasonal menu item?

When the McRib was introduced to McDonald’s stores in 1981 the reaction to the sandwich wasn’t overly positive.

However, since McDonald’s reinstated the item to the menu in 2005, its popularity has soared – but not quite enough to make it a permanent item.

The McRib returned on 1 November 2021 and will be available nationwide in the US for a limited time only.

Is the McRib worth the hype?

Possibly the most controversial menu item from McDonald’s, the meal has once again led Twitter users to debate whether the barbecue pork sandwich is great or overhyped.

Some fans of the meal were excited to see the seasonal item had been reinstated on the menu. Many Twitter users have been quick to share photos of the tangy barbecue sandwich.

However, it’s clear there’s a big divide on Twitter and many just can’t understand the hype surrounding the menu item.

The McRib is one of those meals you either love or hate. It seems this tweet sums it up perfectly…
