Chef Kwame Onwuachi is an inspiration to many. He’s a James Beard winner, made it on to the Forbes “30 under 30” list and has also met Barack and Michelle Obama.
Kwame Onwuachi’s career looks to be going from strength to strength. In 2019 he published a book entitled Notes From A Young Black Chef and 2021 saw him join Food & Wine magazine as an executive producer.
Who is Kwame Onwuachi?
Born in Long Island on 11 November 1989, Kwame grew up in The Bronx.
He cites his favourite food city as New York and said his go-to comfort meal is chicken wings and pork fried rice from a Chinese restaurant.
Kwame’s career saw him start out waiting tables and working as a cook. He later enrolled at The Culinary Institute Of America and in 2015 was a contestant on Top Chef season 13.

Chef Kwame Onwuachi in 2021
In 2021, Kwame joined iconic culinary publication Food & Wine Magazine as an executive producer.
He also appeared on US show Live Kelly Ryan in August 2021 and was interviewed by Harper’s Bazaar. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar in April, Kwame revealed he often eats leftovers for breakfast, loves Jenny’s ice cream and is more of a “craving kind of person“.
Kwame also teamed with Belvedere Vodka to launch an organic vodka line. Wine Spectator wrote: “Belvedere Vodka introduced its first USDA-certified organic line of vodkas this summer and called on eco-minded chef Kwame Onwuachi to help celebrate the launch in New York City.“
