What is Thiccsgiving?

Essentially, Thiccsgiving is an online trend that sees some users share some not-safe-for-work photos of themselves with their followers in honor of Thanksgiving.

For those who are not familiar with the phase thicc, it is a slang term that refers to a person who has a more curvier body shape.

The Thiccsgiving trend has been around for a few years, with one of its first mentions online in 2018 in an article on Babe.

How did Thiccsgiving start?

While Thiccsgiving’s initial celebrations date back to around 2018, the phrase’s first pop culture use was during the holiday period the year before.

In November 2017, the one and only Beyoncé used the phrase as she celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with her fans.

In a post on her website in honor of Thanksgiving, a picture of the Crazy In Love singer was uploaded along with the festive message: “Happy Thiccsgiving.”

Away from the Thiccsgiving trend across social media, others appear to have adopted the term as an alternative phrasing for Thanksgiving similar to Turkey Day.

It has taken on a more literal meaning this holiday season

This year Thiccsgiving seems to have adopted a new meaning following its use in the title of a Roster Teeth podcast episode name.

Aside from its slang connotations, thicc can also be a more informal spelling of thick, with one of its meanings referring to the consistency of something.

In the episode titled, Welcome To Thiccsgiving, the RT hosts and guests added a thickener to a series of different food toppings to make them more dense.

They tried thicker versions of a selection of Thanksgiving staples, including cranberry sauce, turkey broth, and gravy.
