The controversial logo that resulted in Kanye West’s suspension from Twitter could be a Raelian symbol, some fans of the Donda singer have theorized.

The Tweet included an image that Kanye had seemingly created in Photoshop which appeared to intertwine the symbol of Judaism with the logo of Hitler’s party.

Amid the singer’s recent antisemitic comments on Twitter and elsewhere, the symbol was initially viewed as a Star of David and swastika, however, other possible origins of the logo have come to light.

We explore Kanye’s use of a Raelian symbol and what it might mean below.

Kanye West, now known as Ye, was suspended from Twitter today (December 2) for posting an antisemitic symbol which appeared to be a swastika inside of a Star of David with the caption: “Ye24 love everyone #lovespeech.”

‘Ye24’ refers to the rapper’s alleged presidential bid for the 2024 election.

Despite describing himself as a “free speech absolutist“, Elon Musk decided to suspend West’s account and cited “incitement to violence” as the reason.

Musk tweeted: “I tried my best. Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended,”

It came hours after Kanye West’s interview with rightwing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones in which he controversially stated his ‘like‘ for Hitler multiple times and said that we need to stop “dissing the Nazis all the time” because they “did good things too.”

Musk did not clarify whether the suspension of Ye’s account would be permanent.

What is a Raelian symbol and how is it connected to Kanye’s tweet?

According to many on Twitter, the logo that Kanye tweeted was actually a Raelian symbol. The logo is representative of the obscure religion Raelism which has associations with UFOs.

One Twitter user wrote: “He [Kanye West] posted a Raëlian star. That’s the symbol for a fairly obscure UFO religion.”

Another user wrote: “This symbol that Kanye is so obviously trying to convince people he just designed on Photoshop is actually that of an old UFO cult.”

The religion’s official symbol is a swastika inside of a hexagram. Allegedly, for subscribers of Raelism, the logo means infinity with the hexagram symbolizing infinite space and the swastika representing infinite time.

The logo’s likeness to a swastika intertwined with a Star of David, a symbol of Judaism, is acknowledged by the religion. In 1991, a new symbol was introduced, for this reason, however, the original symbol was eventually reinstated.

Members of the religion reportedly believed that education was more effective than avoidance in dealing with the controversial logo.

What is Raelism? Kanye’s tweet could be a nod to it

Raelism is a UFO religion founded in France in the 1970s by journalist Claude Vorilhon, who is now known as Rael and viewed as the leader.

Raelism teaches that an extra-terrestrial species, known as the Elohim, created humanity using advanced technology and believes that religious figures such as Jesus and The Buddha are in fact Elohim who has been mistaken for profits or Gods.

The religion argues that humanity must use scientific and technological developments for peaceful purposes to prevent the extinction of our species and that once this has been achieved, the Elohim will come to Earth to share their technology and establish a utopia.

Practices include daily meditation, monthly meetings, and a liberal ethical view including gender fluidity.

What does a swastika inside the Star of David mean?

The swastika symbol was adopted by the Nazi Party and is widely associated with fascism in the West. It is however understood to originally have been an ancient Indian sign and the word ‘swastika’ means well-being in Sanskrit.

It has been used by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains for millennia and at the beginning of the 20th Century, the symbol was used in The West as a good luck symbol.

The Star of David is generally used as the official symbol of Judaism and Jewish identity and sits on the flag of Israel.

It was widely adopted by Jewish communities in the 19th century and was used to decipher Jews in German-occupied areas during WW2.

Combining these two symbols could be seen as an offensive and antisemitic move due to the atrocities Jews were subjected to during the Holocaust.
