Gramercy Park Hotel, which first opened in 1925, has called 2 Lexington Avenue home for 97 years but is preparing to close its doors for good.
Everything in the 180-room hotel is on sale after ABC7 reports a change of hands resulted in its liquidation sale.
The hotel has a rich history, having been frequented by the social elite and celebrities, including the likes of novelist Mary McCarthy and former president John F. Kennedy, as per Time Out. It has also been a filming location of several projects across TV and film over the years according to IMDb.
As the sale includes everything inside, this includes everything from vintage lamps extending to entire rooms of furniture.
What are the opening hours of the Gramercy Park Hotel liquidation sale?
The Gramercy Park Hotel first opened its doors for its liquidation sale late last week on Sunday (September 25). The sale is set to continue over the next month, after which an auction will be held for any items that were not sold.
When the sale was first announced, it was explained that it would be open to the public daily between the hours of 9am and 8pm and that customers could walk freely from room to room browsing.
However, according to Best Buy Auctioneers, there has been an update to opening hours and how the sale is being conducted.
A statement on the site explains that following an “overwhelming response,” there will no longer be access to the upper levels of the hotel and that contents up for sale will be moved to the lobby.
It also added that opening hours have now been slightly pushed back and would now start from 11 am until 8pm, still running seven days a week.
You don’t have to pay to enter but expect to pay up to $2,500 for some items
While there is no entrance fee for browsing the sale, shoppers can expect luxury price tags on some items.
As explained by ABC7, prices for items within the iconic Gramercy Park Hotel sale range from $25 to a whopping $2,500.
In an article on the sale published by the New Yorker’s Curbed, pricing for a few items was listed. The piece claimed that one of the cheapest items that was being sold was shoehorns which were priced at $10.
It added that items with the GPH logo appeared to be a bit dearer in price as it listed slippers to have been $50 and bathrobes double that at $100.
Avenue Magazine also hinted at some of the wares up for grabs as it added that it saw a GPH logo umbrella priced at $50.
