Looking for your lucky ticket? If you’re hoping to strike big with Mega Millions, you might want to know about the next drawing in 2022.
This summer has seen Mega Millions dish out its second-largest jackpot ever as one lucky ticket, sold in Illinois, won $1.34 billion (£1.11 billion), as reported by the BBC. The identity of the winner, however, remains unknown.
With Mega Millions’ prizes in the news, interest in how to get involved with the next draw continues to rise.
Let’s take a look at whether Mega Millions is scheduling another draw for this year.
Is there another Mega Millions drawing in 2022?
For those hoping there will be more opportunities to win big this year, you’re already in luck. There are two scheduled Mega Millions draws per week, meaning two opportunities to play.
Mega Millions tickets cost $2, but you can add the Megaplier for $1. Opting in for the Megaplier will increase the amount of your potential prize up to five times the original prize, except for the jackpot. Beware, though, the odds are long.
Winning the major jackpots is rare and, although playing Mega Millions could get you some serious prize money, in the game’s 20-year history only a handful of single tickets have been won by individuals.

When is the next Mega Millions drawing in 2022?
Mega Millions draws are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11pm Eastern Time. They are held in Atlanta, Georgia.
With the most recent draw being on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, the next scheduled draw will be on Friday, August 5. This is correct as of publication date.
You can opt in to the game by purchasing Mega Millions tickets weekly.
How the draw works
The game works as a lottery. Players must select five numbers from 1 to 70 with an extra Mega Ball number from 1 to 25.
For each draw, five numbers and a Mega Ball number are drawn. Those with a winning ticket must have the same numbers as the draw.
In 2022 alone, five Mega Millions jackpots have been won. They have been won in California, New York, Minnesota, Tennessee, and now Illinois. The jackpots start at $20 million and “grow based on game sales and interest rates,” as reported on the Mega Millions website.
But be warned, chances of winning the jackpot are slim indeed – and Slim is getting ready to leave town. The chances of scooping the jackpot are estimated to be one in 303 million as of publication date. These scary odds will no doubt lengthen as more people opt in to the game.

Which states participate in Mega Millions?
There are 45 states that participate in Mega Millions, as well as the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands. The only states to not offer the game are Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.
For New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, you must purchase your tickets by 10.45pm ET on the Tuesday and Friday to be involved in that night’s draw. Other states have different rules about when you can purchase your ticket to still be involved in the draw.
