A Democrat has emerged in recent polls as one of California governor Gavin Newsom’s challengers.
A poll released on Wednesday, 4 August by SurveyUSA showed 29-year-old Paffrath as the No. 1 contender to replace Governor Newsom at the time.
Kevin Paffrath, known by his YouTube username Meet Kevin, announced he was running to try to replace Newsom in May.
According to Newsweek, Paffrath is one of 46 candidates on the recall ballot being distributed to California voters.
Paffrath appears on the ballot as a financial educator and analyst, and is running as a Democrat – although his proposals and messaging draw from both sides of the political aisle.
On the day Paffrath announced his gubernatorial campaign, he released a 20-point plan on his proposed strategies for tackling homelessness, crime and housing affordability during the next one to five years if elected.

Paffrath was born in Germany but his family moved to Florida when he was 13 months old.
According to a biography published on his official website, Paffrath dedicated himself to volunteering for his local police departments in Florida and California while he was in high school.
Paffrath came to California with $1,000 to his name at the age of 17.
After working briefly in the restaurant industry, he became a homeowner and real estate agent.
In 2018, he launched his YouTube channel, which currently has more than 1.6 million subscribers.

Paffrath met his future wife, Lauren, while on a high-school trip to Paris.

In the summer before his senior year of high school, Paffrath moved to California to live with Lauren and her family while finishing at Buena High School.
Paffrath became interested in real estate after meeting Lauren’s parents, who worked in the field.
He started studying to become a realtor and earned hisc during his freshman year of college.
Lauren, who began to manage properties when she was 18 years old, currently works as a property manager for The Paffrath Organization, the couple’s real estate business, according to CNBC.
In 2020, the Paffrath family reportedly earned more than $1 million in May alone.
However, a chunk of the family’s income comes via Kevin’s YouTube channel.
Besides working as a property manager, Lauren has also taken on full-time childcare duties for their two young sons, Jack, five, and Max, two.
