As reported by the BBC, jury selection began today in Jussie Smollett’s trial. Prosecutors accuse the actor of lying about an alleged hate crime in Chicago almost three years ago.
Prosecutors have accused him of setting up the attack on himself as a publicity stunt, something Mr Smollett denies.

The BBC writes: “Authorities allege Mr Smollett paid two brothers $3,500 (£2,630) to carry out the attack to promote his career because he was ‘dissatisfied with his salary.’”
Smollett has denied any wrongdoing.
Separately, in 2019, Smollett completed the sale of his Los Angeles condominium for $1.655 million (almost £1.3 million). He sold it at a small loss having bought it for $1.687 million in 2016.

Does Jussie Smollett have a partner?
Smollett came out as gay in conversation with Ellen DeGeneres in the green room after an episode of her talk show. He came out to his parents when he was 19.
“It was really important to me to make sure (it) got across that there is no closet,” he told DeGeneres.
Per Cheatsheet, rumours circulated in 2017 that he was romantically involved with businessman Tawan Davis. This was never confirmed.
In May 2018, Page Six reported Smollett was “in a happy relationship”. However, it couldn’t reveal with whom.
