Robert Downey Jr revealed the details of a “terrible and shocking tragedy” yesterday. His friend and right hand man, Jimmy Rich, passed away following a car accident. Who was Jimmy Rich, what was his net worth, and what movies did he work on?

Who was Jimmy Rich?

Jimmy Rich was a crew member on every MCU film featuring Robert Downey Jr. 

Rich, 52, was Downey Jr’s personal assistant from 2003, one of the very few assistants he had.

He even had a tattoo on his calf depicting the words “Iron Man”, according to Vanity Fair.

Not only did Rich accompany Downey Jr during his MCU ventures, but he was also with him on films like Zodiac, A Scanner Darkly and Tropic Thunder.

In total, he had 22 IMDB credits to his name as a crew member – as Downey Jr’s assistant.

He also acted as driver on three movies, and appeared in the behind-the-scenes mockumentary Tropic Thunder: Rain of Madness as Drake “The Stick” Longwood in 2008.

His most recent movie credit was Dolittle (2020), starring Downey Jr as the eponymous doctor.

Rich’s first IMDB credit assisting Downey Jr was The Singing Detective (2003).

That year marked the beginning of Downey Jr’s sobriety, according to Entertainment Weekly.

In his Instagram post, Downey Jr credited Jimmy Rich as a big supporter in his recovery.

Incidentally, Rich’s Instagram bio reads that he was clean/sober since December 1998.

As Rich wasn’t in the public eye per se, no official figures regarding his net worth are publicly available.

However, HeightZone estimates he had a “decent” net worth.

As he was working with one of Hollywood’s richest actors, it is likely that he was financially comfortable.

It is not clear whether or not Jimmy Rich had a wife or girlfriend.

However, Downey Jr did offer his condolences “to [Jimmy Rich’s] beautiful family”.
