Kaya Scodelario reflects on her age in Skins
Taking to TikTok on Monday (July 25), Kaya reflected on her start in Skins at 14. While sharing her reaction to US high school drama Euphoria, the actress looked back on her time in the UK teen drama.
In a video to her 467,400 followers, she wrote: “Watching Euphoria for the first time thinking this is crazy for 17-year-olds then remembering what I was doing on TV at 14.”
The Skins alum’s recent TikTok is not the only time Kaya has reflected on her age during the series. In a 2014 interview with Grazia, she discussed how she felt she “didn’t feel young” during her stint on the series.
She explained: “I think growing up in London, you grow up a lot quicker than people think. And I mean, even now, I look back, and I think, ‘Oh God, I Was 14…’ and it sounds young to me, but I didn’t feel young.”
Kaya initially said she was older during Skins casting
While chatting to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019, the actress admitted she had said she was 16 years old during the audition stage of the series after hearing they were looking for people that age and over.
Kaya explained that after hearing that there were open auditions happening locally, she sat and watched the ongoings from across the street.
After catching the eye of a producer, they crossed over to her asking if she wanted to audition. While she was aware of the minimum age to audition, she told them she was 16 and a half.
The actress went on to land the part of Effy but only after she revealed her actual age when she was told she was too old. Kaya said: “Then, I admitted that I lied about my age. Luckily, they gave me the opportunity.”
