After having his account reinstated on Twitter, a photo has been shared online alleging Donald Trump aimed a Truth Social post at Elon Musk saying: “I’ll come back when you call me daddy.” However, the photo of the supposed post has been flagged by fact-checkers who warn users it could be fake.

Before Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, the former US president had been permanently banned from the social media platform. The ban was in force from January 2021 “due to the risk of further incitement of violence”.

This came after Trump called the people who stormed the US Capitol “patriots”, the BBC reported.

How did Trump get back on Twitter?

The 51-year-old SpaceX owner officially became the owner of Twitter on October 2. Now, less than a month later, he has lifted the ban on Trump’s account. It comes as earlier this year Musk called the ban a “mistake” and “morally wrong”.

In a tweet, Musk made a poll asking if Trump should be reinstated on the platform. At the time Musk announced his decision, the result was as close as Britain voting for Brexit. Around 52 percent of more than 15 million respondents on his poll voted in favor of bringing Trump back and 48 percent voted against.

Musk then shared the results with the words “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” – a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people is the voice of God”.

Trumps account became active almost immediately after the ban and his tweets have become visible again and the words “he’s back” began trending.

However, the former president rejected the ban being lifted as since he was reinstated. There has been no new tweets from the account.

It was also reported he said at a rally on Saturday evening: “I don’t see any reason for it (returning),” via video when asked about it by a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting.

He said he would stick with his new platform Truth Social, developed by his Trump Media and Technology Group startup, which he identifies as a “platform for free speech”.

What is Donald Trump’s Truth Social?

Trump – who went on to confirm his next bid to be president in 2024 – founded Truth Social in October 2021.

The app was initially rejected by Google Play because it did not remove posts that incited violence. However, the store did make it available after the site took more steps to moderate posts.

The site was launched in early 2022 and is similar to Twitter in its features and design. It allows users to build custom profiles, follow others and create posts, which the app calls “Truths” and “Re-Truths” instead of tweets and retweets.

Fact-checkers cause doubt on whether Donald Trump’s Truth Social post told Elon Musk to ‘call me daddy’

A photo claiming to show a photo of Donald Trump posting on his own platform and asking Elon Musk to ‘call him daddy’, has been doing the rounds. However, Instagrams’ fact-check service flags the post and photo as being potentially tampered with or doctored.

A notice underneath the post warns users it may not be real.

The fact-check service informs users that a previous fake Twitter post had gone viral on November 19. The doctored tweet claimed to be from Trump’s account, alleging it was his first tweet since his profile was reinstated. However, it turned out the tweet was fake.

According to an unconfirmed screenshot purporting to show a Truth Social post by former president Trump, the post accused Musk of “begging” him to head back to Twitter.

The photo alleges the former president said: “Elon rolled out the red carpet and is begging me to return to the failing Twitter, but the Truth is special!

“We’ve got the best ratings of any social media platform! Elon thinks about me noon and night because he needs me more than I need him.

“He craves Trump so much he can taste it. It’s fun to watch him grovel at my feet!”

Trump allegedly finished off the post by saying: “Hey Elon, I’ll come back when you call me daddy!!”

Due to the fact-checking warning to users on DJ Akademiks‘ post, it sparks doubt on its authenticity. Furthermore, Trump and Musk have neither responded nor confirmed the post is real, too.

Both Elon Musk and Donald Trump have been contacted for a comment by The Focus and GRV Media.
