Dave’s wife shared the news to Twitter in a short statement: “Dave’s wife Liz here. We lost this wonderful man last night. He passed peacefully and knowing how much he is loved. We’re all heartbroken.”
Who was Dave Roberts?
Dave Roberts was an author best known for writing The Bromley Boys: The True Story of Supporting the Worst Football Club in Britain. The book was published in 2008 and later turned into a film starring Alan Davies and Martine McCutcheon.
His first book, ‘e-luv: an internet romance’, came out in 2006. Dave’s latest book, The Long, Long Road to Wembley, came out in 2019. The subject matter returned to his passion: Bromley F.C.

Dave and The Bromley Boys
The Bromley Boys was the book to launch Dave Roberts into literary stardom.
The autobiographical book charts one of the worst-ever seasons Bromley Football Club endured and Dave’s enduring love of the amateur football team.
Former England footballer Peter Crouch described the book as a “must-read for anyone who loves football.”

Bromley pays tribute to the late Dave Roberts
On Sunday, 28 November 2021, Bromley F.C. paid tribute to the late Dave Roberts. In a short statement on Twitter, the official football club account tweeted: “Bromley Football Club are heartbroken to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Dave Roberts.”
They linked to a heartfelt tribute published on the Bromley F.C. website which detailed more about Dave, his life, and his connection to the club.
They wrote: “Dave’s heart will always remain at Hayes Lane, and the Club will be planning a tribute to a man who is well and truly a Bromley legend. Our heartfelt thoughts are with Dave’s wife Liz and the family at this difficult time, and we will be extending our support to them.”
