John Wayne Gacy welcomed two children with Marlynn Myers

Netflix’s gripping Conversations With A Killer docuseries focuses on the crimes and murders John Wayne Gacy committed before his 1980 conviction, touching on the killer’s background and personal life.

Before Gacy’s notorious killing spree in the 1970s, he had married Marlynn Myers. As reported by Newsweek, the couple met when they were colleagues at a Nunn-Bus Shoe Company store in Springfield, Illinois. They wed in 1964 after dating for just six months.

Myers and Gacy welcomed their first child, Michael, in 1966 before the arrival of Christine Gracy in 1967. Grunge reports Gacy once described that period of his life as “perfect”. By 1968, however, Gacy and Myers had cut ties and their divorce was finalised in 1969.

Christine Gacy was a baby when her father first went to jail

Marlynn Myers’ and John Wayne Gacy’s daughter Christine Gacy was just one year old when her parents divorced. AllThatsInteresting reports Gacy was sentenced to ten years at the Anamosa State Penitentiary at the time of the divorce.

Although Gacy left Christine’s life early on, Marlynn Myers said he had been a “good father” and had never been violent towards their children.

Likewise, Gacy’s sister Karen told Oprah in 2010: “John felt like he never lived up to (his) dad’s expectations. This went all the way into his adulthood until he married and had a son and daughter.”

As touched on in the new Netflix docuseries, Christine, her brother Michael and her mother never saw Gacy again following Marlynn’s request for sole custody.

Christine Gacy and her brother Michael had no connection with their father before his death in 1994 and have kept out of the public eye. They will both be in their 50s now and are likely to have changed their names to avoid being linked to their father. They are also likely to have careers and families of their own.

John Wayne Gacy remarried years later

Following his divorce from Marlynn Myers, John Wayne Gacy went on to remarry in 1972 after his early release from prison.

Carole Hoff was a friend of Gacy’s sister Karen, and the two rekindled their friendship in 1971. Hoff and her daughters moved into Gacy’s home, Newsweek reports.

By 1976, the couple had called it quits following a dysfunctional relationship. “I was aware of what he was doing (having relationships with men). He just felt he was going more for the men and not for the women because he could not function with a woman,” Hoff once said.
