Famed toymaker Hasbro announced on Tuesday (12 October 2021) that the company’s chief executive Brian Goldner had passed away just two days after taking medical leave.
Brian Golder had been chief executive of the company since 2008, having joined Hasbro in 2000. He was held in high esteem in industry for transforming the company into a multimedia empire encompassing film, digital and gaming.
What was Brian Goldner’s net worth?
Given his position as chief executive of major toymaker Hasbro, you won’t be surprised to find out Brian Goldner had a net worth in the multimillions.
Wallmine estimated his salary was $17 million at Hasbro. Having been chief executive since 2008, that estimated salary per annum would result in a total pay cheque of more than $220 million.
That doesn’t take into consideration Goldner’s work outside Hasbro. He also served as a director on the ViacomCBS board and as chief executive of financial website MarketWatch.com. Goldner previously served on the boards of Molson Coors Brewing and Gap Inc.
Brian Goldner also ventured into film production, serving as executive producer on Michael Bay’s Transformers (2007). Transformers took more than $708 million at the box office and was the fifth highest-grossing film of 2007.
You can imagine Goldner would have been finely recompensed as executive producer. Brian continued the role on Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009) and G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (2009).

Brian Goldner’s family life explored
After graduating from Dartmouth College, Goldner took a job as marketing assistant at a healthcare firm in Long Island in 1985. It was there he met future wife Barbara Goldner, who was working as a clinical director.
In 1987, when Brian was about 24 years old, he married Barbara, who continued to work as a social worker and nurse.
The couple had their first child in 1992, son Brandon. In 2015, Brandon Goldner tragically passed away from a heroin overdose aged 23.
Brian and Barbara spoke publicly about their son’s passing and campaigned for legislative and community-based solutions to the opioids crisis in the US.
“I know if he were sitting right there – sitting right across from me, sitting next to me – he would say ‘people should know what happened,’” Brian Goldner told the Providence Journal in 2016.
Brian is survived by Barbara and their daughter Brooke. It is thought Brooke was born around 1996, making her about 25 years old.

Who will takeover as Hasbro CEO?
When Brian Goldner took medical leave just two days ago, Rich Stoddart was appointed Hasbro interim chief executive. Stoddart was most recently lead independent director of Hasbro’s board.
It is thought Stoddart will continue as interim chief executive until Hasbro decides who will take on the role permanently.
“On behalf of the Hasbro family, we extend our deepest, heartfelt condolences to Brian’s wife, daughter and entire family,” said Stoddart.
We send our own condolences to family and friends at this difficult time.
