Who is Xavier Becerra’s wife?
Becerra’s wife is Dr. Carolina Reyes. She is a perinatologist, which is an obstetrician with special training in high-risk pregnancy care.
Reyes attended Stanford University and completed her undergraduate degree in human biology. She then studied at Harvard Medical School for her MD.
Reyes has previously been on the California Health Care Foundation board of directors. Before this, she was part of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee, now renamed the National Academy of Medicine, which focused on eliminating racial disparities in health care.
Reyes’ parents were migrant farmworkers and she was the sixth out of eight children. She is originally from the San Joaquin Valley and previously lived in Fresno.
She told the California Health Foundation that: “As a child, the effects of inadequate access to health care were painfully obvious to me. I remember that I didn’t see physicians who looked like me. It made me want to work with people who were disenfranchised.”
It is believed that Becerra met Reyes while they were both attending Stanford University. The couple have three daughters together: Clarisa, Olivia and Natalia.
