Celebrated actor Clu Gulager who was familiar to audiences across TV and film for his roles in The Virginian, Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge and The Return Of The Living Dead, has died aged 93. Clu Gulager’s late wife was also an actress, with some now curious to know more about her career. 

News of Gulager’s passing was announced on Sunday (August 7), with Variety reporting he had died of natural causes. 

In a statement shared by his daughter-in-law Diane Goldner on Facebook, Gulager’s wife was mentioned as the ‘love of his life’. It has since prompted some to wonder more about Clu Gulager’s wife and her acting roles. Let’s take a look…

Clu Gulager’s wife Miriam was the ‘love of his life’

Commemorating the life of the veteran actor, his daughter-in-law Diane Goldner honoured his legacy in a post on Facebook

As well as looking back on his career, the family statement also reflected on his marriage to his late wife, Miriam, who died in 2003.  

The statement explained that Gulager was “shocked” to have lived “for even a day after” her as it went on to describe her as the “love of his life.”

Miriam died aged 73 following a long battle against a brain tumor. As per a past profile on the family by LA Weekly, doctors discovered a tumor in the lining of her brain in 1992 following an MRI scan.

Miriam was also an actress

Born May 17 1929, in Lewisville, Arkansas, Miriam Byrd-Nethery’s IMDb credits her to have starred across 38 projects during her acting career.  

Her first on-screen feature was in the 50s, with the actress later gaining more steady roles in the mid-70s. 

Some of her most notable credits saw her star in horror films Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III and From a Whisper to a Scream, as well as Roald Dahl anthology series Tales Of The Unexpected. 

After an almost 40-year career on-screen, Miriam was seen to have stepped away from acting in the early 90s. Her final credited role was in the short film Vic, which also starred husband, Clu Gulager. It was released three years after her death in 2006.

Clu and Miriam were married for more than five decades

Clu Gulager and wife Miriam Byrd-Nethery were college sweethearts, having first crossed paths during their studies at Baylor University.

While the couple went on to become known for their on-screen careers, they reportedly shared their first kiss on stage during a college production.

They tied the knot in 1952 and were married just over five decades before Miriam’s passing in 2003. 

During their acting careers, the couple featured in several shared titles. Clu and Miriam both had their on-screen debut in 1955 in the educational series Omnibus. 

Some of their shared credits also included the anthology series Insight, drama Quincy M.E., adventure series The Fall Guy, as well as films Lies, Summer Heat, From A Whisper To A Scream and In The Line Of Duty: Ambush In Waco.
