Tessa Gourin has spoken out on the ‘nepo baby’ debate but what is her age and who is the actress who has claimed in the past to be Jack Nicholson’s daughter?
Zoë Kravitz, Dakota Johnson, Jaden Smith, Lily-Rose Depp and even Liza Minelli all have one thing in common – they’re the children of already-famous parents. However, nepotism babies are often accused of using their famous parents’ names to help break into the industry.
Now Gourin has weighed into the debate as she claimed in an Instagram story she is unable to use her status as it’s “not legitimate.”
Who is Tessa Gourin? Age and career explored
Tessa Gourin was born in New York in 1994, meaning she is currently aged 27. She is the daughter of real estate agent Jennine Gourin and has gone on to pursue a career in performance.
Gourin is an actor and ceramics artist who lives in New York, the Insta page for her ceramics company, Mushrooms by Tessa, states.
The artist is probably best known for her role in 2018 movie Stranger’s Arms. Her IMDb reveals she has had roles in two other films – 2021’s Stage Play and The Crusaders, which was released this year.
Her ceramics company has a following on Instagram of 358 but she only launched it in late September 2022.
Little is known about her younger years, but the New York-based actress has posted several images and videos from her childhood, including sharing a video of a trip to LA and visiting the Hollywood sign when she made the comment: “Follow your dreams.”
Actress shares hot take on ‘nepotism babies’
More recently, Gourin shared her hot take on the nepotism baby debate to her Instagram story, which has since been shared to Reddit.
The actress took to social media to say she’d “be thrilled” to be able to use her “nepo baby” status to “get into the room” and “showcase her talent.” However, she added: “That I can’t claim [because] it isn’t considered ‘legitimate.'”
She added: “Do you know how hard it is to even get an audition? Let alone an agent/manager? Now we’re gonna cry about that?”
Gourin goes on to claim society has an “obsession” with “identifying as a victim” and tells nepotism babies to “use your rage of feeling misunderstood or victimized by Hollywood and put it into the work you are so lucky to be getting!”
‘Nepo baby’ controversy explained
Gourin’s opinions on the nepo baby controversy came after Lily-Rose Depp’s interview with Elle in which she deemed the term “sexist” as she feels the label is mainly given to women in the industry.
Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, said: “I just hear [nepo baby] a lot more about women, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.”
The 23-year-old goes on to say: “It’s weird to me to reduce somebody to the idea they’re only there because it’s a generational thing. It just doesn’t make any sense. If somebody’s mom or dad is a doctor and the kid becomes a doctor, you’re not going to be like, ‘Well, you’re only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.’ It’s like, ‘No, I went to medical school and trained.'”
Lily-Rose also says in the interview she doesn’t want to be defined “by the men in my life.” This was picked up by Gourin, who posted in an Insta story: “Things could be worse girl, trust me.”
Tessa Gourin has claimed she’s Jack Nicholson’s daughter
Gourin’s thoughts on the nepo baby debate focuses on her claims to be Jack Nicholson’s daughter, although The Shining actor has never recognised her.
In Gourin’s IG story, which has since been deleted, she allegedly wrote: “My dad is Jack Nicholson and I am more than happy to use his name if it meant I could show the raw talent I am working with.”
She goes on to say: “I am secure enough in my own craft and I think it is pretty understandable that when the subject of acting comes up the names Jack Nicholson and Johnny Depp come up once or twice.”
Gourin’s mother has claimed she had a fling with Nicholson. The National Enquirer reported in 2019 that Jennine, while pregnant at age 20, said: “Even though we aren’t together, I cannot wait for my baby to be born.”
Gourin has spoken about allegedly being the sixth child of the 85-year-old actor and Your Tango reports she wrote: “There is no such thing as an ‘illegitimate’ child, only an illegitimate parent,” in a now-deleted Instagram story.
GRV Media and The Focus have contacted Jack Nicholson for a comment on these claims.
The three-time Oscar winner has five children – Jennifer Nicholson, Caleb James Goddard, Honey Hollman, Lorraine Broussard Nicholson, and Ray Nicholson.
