London-based lawyer Joelle Rich and her husband Jonathan, with whom she has two children, were “estranged” when she began dating Johnny Depp, the New York Post reports.

Rich is making headlines this week after an insider spilled the beans on her romance with Johnny Depp, 59, to US Weekly.

The libel lawyer first met Depp in 2018, when she defended the actor in a libel case against UK publication The Sun.

At the time, Joelle Rich and her husband were estranged, the Post reports, and they are now in the process of getting divorced.

Depp-linked lawyer divorcing husband

The same source that confirmed Rich’s relationship with Depp to Us Weekly claimed the London lawyer and her estranged husband were in the process of getting a divorce. The source told the publication: “Rich was married when she met Depp but is now divorcing her husband.”

The New York Post, on the other hand, reports when Rich met Depp during his 2018 trial, she was already estranged from her husband. The publication claimed the couple “hooked up discreetly” in hotels during the early stages of their romance.

While Rich was on the Oscar-nominated actor’s defence team during his UK libel trial, she did not represent him earlier this year in the highly publicized US case against ex-wife Amber Heard. However, she was present in the Virginia courtroom to support Depp.

“There was no professional obligation for her being there. It was personal,” the insider told Us Weekly.

The Focus has reached out to Depp for comment and is awaiting a reply.

Who is Joelle Rich’s husband, Jonathan?

Joelle Rich’s husband, Jonathan, 38, works as a director for Bluebox Corporate Finance Group. After graduating from the University of Birmingham in 2005 with a first class degree in economics, Rich went on to build a career in corporate finance.

He started out working in assurance for PwC while studying for an Associate Chartered Accountant qualification, which he obtained in 2009. Rich later transferred to PwC’s corporate finance department and almost four years later made the move to Bluebox.

In 2011, Joelle Rich (née Rashti) and Jonathan tied the knot, according to a local publication for North London College alumni. Their wedding was a lavish ceremony in the Tuscan countryside with almost 300 guests. They now have two daughters.

The couple’s “fabulous” Florence wedding appeared in the July 2011 issue of Brides magazine, which praised the event’s exclusive location.

Rich and her husband hired the very villa in which James Ivory’s 1986 movie A Room With A View was filmed. Set in the hills between Florence and Fiesole, Villa di Maiano dates to the 15th century and has captured the imagination of many film directors, including Franco Zeffirelli in the Fifties.

Speaking to Brides magazine in 2011, Joelle said she and her husband fell in love with the Florentine location “as soon as [they] saw the synagogue.” The villa had plenty of space for tables and a “huge dance floor.”

“This is important in Jewish weddings as guests like to dance during the dinner,” the article added.

The reception was based on a luxurious Italian banquet, with gold tableware and decorations, along with table displays made from flowers, herbs and fruit.

Joelle wore a mermaid-style Duchesse-satin wedding gown by a South Kensington designer worth an estimated $11,200, the Daily Mail reported, along with pieces of diamond and gold jewelry, adding up to about $22,500.

After their marriage, Joelle and Jonathan lived in a London property near Joelle’s family home.
