Patti LuPone blasts audience member for not wearing mask

Actress Patti LuPone, who has previously tested positive for the virus, had some strong words for one member of the audience who failed to abide by covid rules.

In a clip captured after a performance of Company, LuPone is heard saying: “Put your mask over your nose! That’s why you’re in the theatre. That is the rule.

“If you don’t want to follow the rule, get the f**k out!”

The audience can be heard cheering Patti but the actress wasn’t finished. “Who do you think you are that you don’t respect the people sitting around you?”

The audience member, who isn’t wearing a mask, retaliates: “I pay your salary!”

“Bulls**t! Chris Harper pays my salary!” LuPone fires back.

As Patti LuPone, who has an estimated net worth of $8 million, claimed producer Chris Harper pays her salary – and not ticket-buyers – let’s find out more about him.

Harper is the producer of hit musical Company and co-founder of Elliott & Harper Productions. After a number of collaborations with artistic director Marianne Elliott, they decided to go into business together.

Before that, Harper worked for Birmingham Rep, Birmingham Hippodrome, Stage Entertainment, Disney Theatrical, Cameron Mackintosh and André Ptaszynski.

Chris holds Tony and Olivier awards and produced War Horse in London’s West End when he served as managing director of National Theatre Productions. He also produced West End show The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.

Broadway producer backs Patti LuPone

After the clip of Patti LuPone shouting at a member of the audience went viral, Chris Harper made his own response and backed the actress.

“Over the course of her storied career, Patti has always had an unshakable bond with the audience, and she takes their role as seriously as her own,” he shared in a statement.

“She is also a fierce advocate for the entire theatrical workforce. We stand with Patti and support her efforts to keep our entire community – from patrons to ushers, cast to stage crew – safe and healthy so we can keep Broadway open.”
