According to Catholic Weekly, Tara-Leigh Cobble’s podcast The Bible Recap topped Podbean’s list of most popular content in the period leading up to 22 January 2022, beating “all categories, including news, sports, entertainment, crime, fashion [and] lifestyle”. What do we know about its host, Tara-Leigh Cobble, and her age and career to date?

Meet evangelical podcaster Tara-Leigh Cobble

Tara-Leigh started D-Group – Discipleship Group – in 2009.

What began as a modest Bible study group between friends has since multiplied. According to the bio on her website, there are now more than 250 D-Group chapters around the world.

Some call D-Group “the CrossFit of Bible studies”, because “it develops strengths you didn’t know you had” – that’s from the D-Group website. Read more here.

Cobble also hosts The Bible Recap, a podcast produced under the D-Group umbrella. It’s a daily podcast and runs at less than 10 minutes. But despite its short runtime, TBR is hugely popular, and its listenership is growing.

In each podcast episode, Tara-Leigh Cobble goes through a short section of the Bible – she’s gone through it chronologically 10 times already – in order to help her listeners grapple with the book as a whole.

The formula works. It’s a very popular podcast, even if it’s not for everybody.

How old is she?

Tara-Leigh Cobble’s age, as of 2022, is about 45. In August 2001, The Greeneville Sun reported on her musical career – back then, she expressed her faith through her music, rather than by podcasting – and noted that, at the age of 24, she had sung in 25 US states.

She graduated from Greeneville High School, Tennessee in 1995.

Cobble has five brothers and sisters, and is the youngest of all her siblings. Her parents are CM and Carole Cobble.

“My parents are the best,” she told the Greeneville Sun in 2001. “I can’t say enough about them. … I’m so blessed to have them behind me.”

Tara-Leigh Cobble lives by herself in Dallas, Texas – she is unmarried, and has neither children nor pets. Nor, she adds (in her bio), “anything else that might die if I forget to feed it”.

In 2016 Tara-Leigh underwent two open heart surgeries in a nine-week period

“I have forgotten a lot of it”, Cobble wrote in an Instagram post on 30 September 2019, marking three years since the operations. “But I will always know the goodness of The Lord.”

The operations took place at Baylor Scott & White Health, in Dallas.

She read the Bible all the way through for the first time in 2008. Doing so “changed everything”, she says. It awakened in her “a recognition of my need to have others walking closely alongside me in my pursuit of God”.

Her biggest dream, she told Sabrina Harrison after an Equipped By Faith meeting, is to spend her days “advancing [God’s] Kingdom”.

“My biggest dream is happening! I love watching God grow D-Group, and I hope to see more than 1,000 D-Groups someday!”
